Research Project: “Physicians´ transitions to retirement”

The research project asks how physicians in Germany plan, decide and do transitions from work to retirement. It focuses on physicians´ individual experiences. To answer the research question, 20 semi-structured interviews are conducted with physicians who either retired or plan to retire.

In her PhD project she examines how physicians in Germany produce and form their transitions to retirement. Particular attention is paid to how physicians deal with job-related social expectations when producing and forming their transitions to retirement.

The PhD project makes a contribution to the research training group by providing empirical findings on the formation of transitions to retirement on the individual level.
